Buttermilk Scones

Ingredients

3c all-purpose flour,
1/3c sugar,
2.5tsp baking powder,
1/2tsp baking soda,
3/4tsp salt,
1.5sticks (6 oz) unsalted butter, cold
1c buttermilk (or yogurt),
1/2c dried fruit & nuts,

Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • scone pan (or cookie pan)
  • fork

Directions

  1. In the mixing bowl, stir the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together with a fork.
  2. Add the cold butter pieces and using your fingertips, work the putter into the dry ingredients (it is okay to have larger pieces).
  3. Add buttermilk and mix with fork until ingredients are moist. Then need no more than 12 times.
  4. Place scones in a scone pan (for triangles) or divided into halves until you have 8 even pieces. Cook at 425 for 10-12 minutes. (Best warm- reheat for 5 minutes at 350.)
